The saddleback clownfish (Amphiprion polymnus) is a dark brown to orange clownfish with a white head bar and a slanting white saddle across its back. The edge of its tail is often white.
It grows to about 12-13 cm and typically lives in Haddon's and gigantic carpet anemones on open sand and silt, rather than on the reef. The group defends its anemone fiercely, and the male guards the eggs laid on nearby debris or shells.
The saddleback clownfish is found in the western Pacific, including the Philippines, where it is a classic sight on sandy muck slopes, nestled in carpet anemones.
