Goniobranchus fidelis

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Mollusca
Class: Gastropoda
Order: Nudibranchia
Family: Chromodorididae
Genus: Goniobranchus
Species: Goniobranchus fidelis

Goniobranchus fidelis is a chromodorid nudibranch, a member of the large and colourful Goniobranchus genus.

This one has a cream body with orange bands edged in purple, and dark gills and rhinophores. Nudibranchs of the Philippines also shows a second colour variety on page 112, so not every animal will look exactly the same.

Like other chromodorids it feeds on sponges. It is usually seen out in the open on reefs and rubble during the day.

It is fairly small, so get close with a macro lens. A shot from above shows the banded mantle edge, while a side view shows the dark gills.

It appears on page 111 of Nudibranchs of the Philippines.
