Calcinus lineapropodus

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Malacostraca
Order: Decapoda
Family: Diogenidae
Genus: Calcinus
Species: Calcinus lineapropodus

Calcinus lineapropodus is a small left-handed hermit crab with fine dark lines along its walking legs, from which its name comes. Like other Calcinus it has one claw noticeably larger than the other.

It lives in empty gastropod shells and scavenges algae and detritus. When disturbed it retreats deep into its shell and blocks the opening with its larger claw.

In the Philippines it is found on shallow reef flats and rocky areas, usually tucked among coral rubble and crevices.
