The zebra moray (Gymnomuraena zebra) is a dark brown moray ringed with many thin white bands. Its blunt head and small eyes give it a gentle look.
It can grow to about 1.5 m and has flat, pebble-like teeth for crushing crabs, sea urchins and molluscs. It is generally shy and harmless to divers.
In the Philippines it is found in reef crevices and shallow rocky areas.
