Sexy Shrimp

Thor amboinensis

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Malacostraca
Order: Decapoda
Family: Thoridae
Genus: Thor
Species: Thor amboinensis

The sexy shrimp (Thor amboinensis) is a small brown-orange shrimp with white, blue-edged patches. It gets its name from the way it constantly raises and waves its abdomen.

It grows to only about 2 cm and lives in small groups on sea anemones, corals and mushroom corals. It feeds on mucus, plankton and scraps around its host.

In the Philippines it is common on reefs and sandy slopes and is a favourite subject for macro photographers.
