The saw-jawed monocle bream (Scolopsis ciliata) is a pale, elongate bream with a dark back, a thin white stripe running from the eye towards the tail and a yellowish tail. A small spine below the eye gives the group its name.

It grows to about 20 cm and hovers near the bottom over sand and rubble, darting down to pick up small crustaceans, worms and molluscs. It is usually seen alone or in loose groups.

The saw-jawed monocle bream is found in the Indo-West Pacific, including the Philippines, where it lives on sandy areas near reefs and in sheltered bays, much like the two-lined monocle bream.
