Eubranchus sp. 7

Eubranchus sp. 7 is a small aeolid in the family Eubranchidae. It has not yet been formally described. Fine dark dots mark its white body and swollen cerata, giving useful details to record when comparing it with other pale aeolids.

Eubranchus are hydroid feeders and are often encountered on their prey colonies. The exact hydroid used by this unnamed form is not established here. Look carefully without pulling apart the colony or touching its branches.

For divers in the Philippines, the numbered entry in the book provides a reference for an animal that lacks a formal species name. Keep the number with your photographs rather than substituting the name of a similar-looking species.

Use a macro lens and focus on the head before taking a wider frame of the cerata. Gentle lighting helps retain both the white areas and the tiny dark markings.

It appears on page 230 of Nudibranchs of the Philippines.
