Stiliger sp. 2

Stiliger sp. 2 is a small sacoglossan in the family Limapontiidae. It has not yet been formally described. Its translucent body and pale, white-flecked cerata can make it difficult to separate visually from the surface beneath it.

Sacoglossans feed by piercing algal cells and drawing out their contents. Although their cerata can resemble those of aeolid nudibranchs, they belong to a different group with a different feeding method. The exact food alga of this unnamed form is not established here.

For divers in the Philippines, careful photographs allow comparison with the book's numbered identification. Record the head and full arrangement of the cerata rather than choosing a name from colour alone.

A macro lens and soft lighting help reveal translucent details. Stay clear of the bottom and resist moving algae or the animal to create an uncluttered background.

It appears on page 338 of Nudibranchs of the Philippines.
