Cabangus regius

Cabangus regius, sometimes called the regal nudibranch or regal Dendronotus, is a small dendronotid nudibranch that grows to about 3 cm.

It was described in 2008 as Dendronotus regius, one of the first tropical Indo-Pacific Dendronotus known, and was moved to its own genus, Cabangus, in 2020. Older guides may still list it under the old name.

Like other dendronotids, it has a row of branched, tree-like appendages along each side of its back and branched sheaths around its rhinophores, which give it a spiky look.

It is known from Indonesia and the Philippines. Its branching shape makes it easy to overlook against the bottom, so look carefully and use a low angle to show its outline.

It appears on page 209 of Nudibranchs of the Philippines.
