Pseudobornella orientalis

Pseudobornella orientalis is a translucent nudibranch with elaborate processes along its body. The animal shown here was photographed on a sea pen. Its fine projections and pale appearance make the head and body outline important details to record clearly.

Hydroid feeding has been documented for this species. The sea pen in these photographs is therefore best treated as the surface on which this individual was observed, not as proof of its diet. Association alone does not demonstrate feeding.

For divers in the Philippines, keeping a photograph of the surrounding habitat alongside a close portrait helps preserve the context of a sighting. The book provides the identification reference used for this page.

Use gentle lighting and a macro lens to show the translucent body without losing the fine processes. Keep equipment clear of the sea pen and never move the slug to obtain a cleaner background.

It appears on page 188 of Nudibranchs of the Philippines.
