Platydoris formosa is a dorid nudibranch from the family Discodorididae. Platydoris species are broad, flat and firm to the touch, more like a leather pad than a soft slug.
This one has a red-orange mantle marked with darker red patches and fine pale lines. The rhinophores and gills sit in pockets and can be pulled in when disturbed.
Like other discodorids it feeds on sponges. It often hides under rocks and ledges during the day, so it can be easy to miss.
Its size makes it a good wide macro subject. Shoot from above to show the full pattern of the mantle.
It appears on page 97 of Nudibranchs of the Philippines.
