Humped Conch

Euprotomus bulla

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Mollusca
Class: Gastropoda
Order: Littorinimorpha
Family: Strombidae
Genus: Euprotomus
Species: Euprotomus bulla

The humped conch (Euprotomus bulla) is a strombid snail with a heavy, knobby shell and a flared lip. Like other conchs, it has stalked eyes that peek out from notches in the shell.

It grazes on algae and detritus on sand and moves by pushing off with a sickle-shaped operculum, making short hops.

In the Philippines it is found on sandy and seagrass areas near reefs, often half buried in the sand.
