Black-tip Sole

Soleichthys heterorhinos

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Actinopterygii
Order: Pleuronectiformes
Family: Soleidae
Genus: Soleichthys
Species: Soleichthys heterorhinos

The black-tip sole (Soleichthys heterorhinos) is an elongated sole with dark bands and fins edged in blue and black. When it swims, its undulating fins make it look like a flatworm or nudibranch.

It grows to about 15-20 cm and hides under sand by day, emerging at night to feed on small invertebrates.

In the Philippines it is found on sand and rubble, usually seen on night dives.
